Even Osprey practice catch and release

We never saw this Osprey hit the water, but noticed him about 40 yards upstream, drifting straight towards us. He seemed injured at first, sitting low in the water, flailing his wings every now and then. After a bit we realized he must have ahold of a fish and was waiting for it to tire. When about 30 ft. of us he decided to take off. After struggling a bit he managed to clear the fat 18-20 inch Lower Sacramento River Rainbow from the surface and head for shore. Unfortunately (for the Osprey) the trout gave one last  flop and splashed back into the safety of the Sac. Or perhaps the Osprey was just practicing catch and release!
