Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains at 3,200 feet, in the emerging wine region of Manton, CA., sits Lake Christine on the 80 acre Rock Creek Ranch, a fantastic fly fishing destination. While the Ponderosa Fire of 2012 swept through the property, trees grow, and a combination of 14,000 pines, cedars and oaks have been planted to help repopulate the landscape to its former glory. Its only a matter of time until the clear blue lake is once again surrounded by green forestland and its abundant wildlife.
Located in Shasta County, the approximately 6 acre Lake Christine is a well known fly fishing destination in Northern California. Previously utilized as a leased private waters fishery through The Fly Shop for rainbows and brown trout, the lake is fed by the clear, cold water of Rock Creek, which runs through the property and is a tributary to North Fork of Battle Creek. The system provides habitat for a self sustaining rainbow and brown trout population. The lake boasts profuse Summer and Fall callibaetis hatches, with abundant midge and damselfly populations as well, providing great dry fly, nymph, and streamer fishing, including some great sight fishing to trout in the lake’s shallows.
In the level meadow by the lake’s edge sits the former site of the main home, providing peaceful views of the lake’s waterfowl and rising trout. Prior to the fire, the property also had three guest cabins.
In 2016, working with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, a new concrete spillway was installed at a cost of nearly $100,000. This was done to replace the original, aging spillway to protect from potential silt discharge into the Battle Creek drainage. The property also has a recreational water right license allowing for the storage of up to 32 acre feet per year.
Wildlife is abundant around the lake including waterfowl, deer and an active bald eagle nest overlooking the lake.
The property is located about an hour from Redding and Red Bluff.
This is truly a unique piece of Northern California recreational waterfront property with great fly fishing, located in an area of California renowned for its great outdoor opportunities.
