Dunsmuir

Dunsmuir is a quaint, historic railroad town with a population of approximately 1,700. It is a hub of Northern California recreation and contains restaurants shopping and lodging. It is located at an elevation of approximately 2,290 feet and enjoys all four seasons.

The Areas Recreational Attractions

Recreation abounds in this mountainous region of Northern California. Popular activities include kayaking; both white water on the Upper Sac and stillwater in the regions numerous lakes, hiking; the Pacific Crest Trail runs nearby and there are many other trails to nearby lakes and mountains, including the nearby Castle Crags State Park; fishing; the Upper Sac is right in the backyard but other popular destinations are the nearby McCloud, Lower Sac, Hat Creek, Fall River and countless other lakes and streams. Shasta Lake is just down the road and is popular for all manner of warm-water recreation.
